Platform comparison
EchoDepth vs Qualtrics — what the gap between your survey scores and your market outcomes is telling you.
Qualtrics is the market leader in survey-based experience management. It measures what participants choose to write. EchoDepth measures what they actually feel — the physiological emotional response that precedes any written answer, and that drives the decisions surveys systematically fail to predict.

How EchoDepth and Qualtrics compare
| Dimension | Qualtrics XM | EchoDepth Insight |
|---|---|---|
| Primary data source | Survey responses: structured + open text | Emotional signal: open-text VAD analysis + facial coding |
| What it measures | Stated opinion — what participants choose to write | Felt response — the emotion beneath the written response |
| Text analysis method | NLP sentiment scoring of word choice | VAD emotional signal independent of word choice |
| Masked dissatisfaction | Cannot detect — invisible in linguistic analysis | Primary capability — text-emotion divergence is core output |
| Scale | Thousands to millions of respondents | 20–500 respondents — depth tool, not scale tool |
| Culture / EX | eNPS, pulse surveys, engagement trends, benchmarking | ECI emotional health scoring, Trust Risk Register, pre-exit detection |
| Consumer research | Large quant surveys, conjoint, MaxDiff | Emotional concept testing, purchase desire vs approval separation |
| Pharma research | Patient / HCP structured surveys | Emotional AI capture bypassing social desirability bias |
| Works with existing data | N/A — is the data source | Yes — ingests Qualtrics open-text exports without new surveys |
| Deliverable | Dashboard and trend reports | Structured insight report with specific prioritised recommendations |
| Entry investment | Enterprise annual licence | From £3,500 proof of concept |
The structural problem Qualtrics cannot fix
Qualtrics is excellent at what it does. Its NLP engine, Text iQ, is sophisticated. Its dashboards are powerful. Its benchmarking is extensive. And none of it helps with the fundamental limitation it shares with every survey platform: it analyses words.
Words are the output of a social process. By the time a participant writes anything in response to a survey question, they have already modulated their genuine emotional experience through professional context, social expectation, recall distortion, and the articulation gap — the inability to accurately translate felt emotion into language. Qualtrics Text iQ produces excellent analysis of the words that result from this process. It cannot access the emotional state that preceded it.
This is why Qualtrics culture surveys look stable before resignations occur. This is why Qualtrics concept tests produce positive scores for products that fail at launch. This is why HCP and patient research conducted through Qualtrics systematically underestimates negative affect. The survey is working correctly. The methodology cannot reach the signal that would change the decision.
What EchoDepth adds to a Qualtrics programme
The most effective research and people analytics programmes use Qualtrics for scale and EchoDepth for depth. They are not alternatives — they answer different questions from the same population.
Culture & EX
What your Qualtrics pulse tells you vs what your people feel
EchoDepth applies emotional AI analysis to your Qualtrics open-text exports — detecting text-emotion divergence, masked dissatisfaction, and the pre-exit emotional pattern that engagement scores consistently miss. You run your existing Qualtrics survey. We supply the emotional intelligence layer on top of your data.
Consumer research
What your Qualtrics concept test cannot tell you
Qualtrics concept tests produce purchase intent scores. EchoDepth captures genuine purchase desire at first exposure — the involuntary facial response before any verbal processing. The combination shows which concepts have real commercial potential vs which are "interesting but wouldn't buy."
Pharma research
Beneath the Qualtrics patient response
Qualtrics patient and HCP surveys capture professionally composed responses. EchoDepth captures the emotional response that precedes them — in individual remote interviews without the social pressure that makes pharma qual data systematically unreliable.
Using EchoDepth with your existing Qualtrics data
If you already run Qualtrics surveys — for employee experience, consumer research, or pharma — the proof of concept is straightforward. You send us the anonymised open-text responses from your most recent survey cycle. We apply the EchoDepth emotional AI analysis layer and return a text-emotion divergence report within five working days.
No new surveys. No participant burden. No platform integration required at the proof-of-concept stage. The report will show you which teams, themes, or respondent groups are showing the largest gap between what they write and what the emotional signal beneath the text suggests they actually feel. That gap is exactly what your Qualtrics dashboard cannot show you — and what typically predicts the outcomes your current data misses.
